Hello everyone. Happy New Year.......

I was wondering if anyone on Enbrel had had any reaction at the injection site? I've had 5 injections so far, once a week. The area around the injection site turns bright red, itchy and then 'grows' to anything between the size of a side plate to a dinner plate!!

Any experiences/advice appreciated.

Hi

I have been on Enbrel from last March. I have the same reaction, over time it has eased quite a bit. To help I take one Cetirizine 10 mg (Antihistamine) about an hour before injection and in the early days I also used Eurex HC cream on the injection site. Last week I tried the injection without taking Cetirizine and I didn't need it, still had a little bit of a reaction but nothing like it used to be. In time you will get used to Enbrel and this reaction should begin to ease.

Hope this helps.

I have been on Enbrel for 7 years. The only reaction I have ever got round the injection site was redness. I think it may be an idea for you to contact your RA nurse, just as a precaution.

I hope that things get better for you soon.

Best wishes
Lisa

Hi

I had this for the first few months on enbrel and then it went.

I took puriton but then I saw a dermatologist and they gave me cream.

If you start getting lumps down your sides or anywhere else, do ring rheumatology up and they will check things over- you might not need to stop the drug, just need something to help you to be more tolerant of it.

Hi,

I have been on Enbrel for almost 2 years.

Some weeks I get an injection site reaction, other weeks I do not. The redness and itching is usually only about the size of a 50p piece. Sometimes the area is raised slightly too. As your reaction site is quite large I would perhaps mention it to your rheumy team if only to put your mind at rest.

Hope Enbrel works well for you.

Hi

I was on enbrel for 2 years as part of a trial. Each week I would get an injection site reaction about the size of my fist and interestingly I would also get a reaction at the places I'd injected the previous week and the week before that! But it gradually got less and stopped entirely after about 8 weeks. I found the best thing to put on it was calomine lotion because you can dab as often as you like and it really cooled it down.

Hope yours settles soon!

I had the same reaction and was told that I had to come off the injection, I was offered Enbrel but in a different form. I had to mix it from powder form then inject because they thought it could be the preservatives in the injection that was the problem, it was much better I only had a small reddening around the site. I'm not on it at all now as it wasn't doing the job for me but good look !!
